The one and only cheese market in the netherlands. This is the oldest cheesemarket in existence in the Netherlands. Every Friday from 10:00 'til 12:30 you can visit the cheese market at the Waagplein in Alkmaar.
The sea and the dunes you will find in Egmond:
A beachtown about 10 km from Alkmaar. Easy access by car, public transportation or bicycle.
Bergen aan Zee:
At a distance of about 15 km from Alkmaar you will find the wonderful town of Bergen. Bergen is known for its beaches, Sea and dunes but also for its beautiful villas.
The polders of Noord Holland:
In the polders of Noord-Holland you will find nature in its purest form. Old windmills, polder landscapes, wonderful bike routes and beautiful little villages.
The Zaanse Schans:
At about 20-30 minutes distance from Alkmaar you will find a characteristic neighborhood on the river Zaan, with green houses and windmills from the 17th and 18th century. The special part about the Zaanse Schans is that it's not only a museum but also an area where people live and work.
The broekerveiling:
Situated in the isle rich area of Langedijk. Famous for its thousand islands and beautiful nature. Langedijk and the Broekerveiling is situated 10 minutes from Alkmaar. This is the oldest vegetable and fruit auction house of the Netherlands. No longer actively used, it is now a museum.
